Take Care of Your Oral and Eye Health

Having access to affordable dental and vision care not only brightens your smile and keeps your eyes sharp, but also boosts your overall mental and physical wellness! This is especially true for seniors whose eyes and teeth can really feel the effects of aging. And when it comes to Medicare, dental and vision coverage can be quite limited. We’re here to help. With our dental and vision plans, you’ll find peace of mind, build your self-confidence, and even catch potential health issues early on.

Dental plans: Plans cover diagnostic and preventative care services including cleanings, exams, x-rays, fillings, and extractions, as well as orthodontia for children, and emergency care while traveling. Some plans also cover major services like crowns, root canals, and dentures, though benefits, waiting periods, and annual maximums vary significantly by plan.

Vision Plans: Plans save you money on routine eye care, such as exams, eyeglass frames and lenses, contacts, and even offer big discounts on procedures like LASIK.

Types of Dental & Vision Plans We Offer

We offer affordable dental and vision plans with varying deductibles and coinsurance. These plans cover diagnostic, preventive, and routine services and more through large provider networks. Click the tabs below to learn more.

Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) dental and vision plans typically involve lower costs for staying within a restricted network of providers and require referrals. Vision coverage can be included with dental plans, or purchased as a bundled dental, vision, and hearing (DVH) plan from many of our carriers and providers.

Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) plans offer greater provider flexibility and out-of-network coverage at a potentially higher cost than if you stay in-network.  Vision coverage can be included with dental plans, or purchased as a bundled dental, vision, and hearing (DVH) plan from many of our carriers and providers.

While not insurance plans, these plans offer reduced rates on dental and vision services through a network of participating providers. Unlike insurance, these plans do not pay medical claims. Consumers are responsible for paying the full discounted price for services at the time of care. These plans are typically more affordable than insurance and can save you money on dental and vision care, but should not be considered a substitute a major dental or vision insurance plan.

Dental and Vision Plan FAQs

When you retire and transition to Original Medicare, you’ll most likely have to pay for dental and vision care out of your own pocket. Typically, Medicare does not cover these costs unless they are related to services received in a hospital. Medicare does however cover some eye care services for diabetics, such as testing and treatment for diabetic retinopathy, or glaucoma. It also covers other eye disease, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Marketplace health plans are required to include some dental and vision benefits for children only. However, some Marketplace health plans include dental and vision coverage for adults as well. Some plans have optional coverage, and premiums may be higher for those options.

Yes. Many of the carriers we work with offer standalone dental and vision plans to individuals and families. (See our carriers and online quotes for dental and vision right side of page).

Most standalone dental and vision plans can be purchased at any time of the year. If you are bundling your plan with your health insurance from the marketplace you could buy your policy during the annual open enrollment of November 1 to January 15th. If you eligible for Medicare, you may be able to include dental, vision and other benefits in a Medicare Advantage plan during the Medicare annual open enrollment of October 15th through December 7th. CLICK HERE to visit our Medicare Services page.

Whether you purchase a standalone policy, or a plan that includes dental from the marketplace for children, services may include preventative service (exams & cleanings), basic coverage (fillings or restorative work) or major coverage (root canals, crowns, dentures and bridges). Plans that have major or extensive coverage may have higher premiums.

Vision insurance typically includes preventative benefits such annual exams, glasses, and contact lenses. Some vision plans with higher premiums may offer additional benefits such as eyeglass lens coatings and enhancements, or discounts on some elective vision correction surgery like LASIK and PRK.

Dental insurance covers 100% of preventative services, and also provides additional benefits depending on the plan. Dental insurance plans may have deductibles and limits which varies by plan. Premiums also vary by plan. Some plans have in-network and out-of-network benefits, providing flexibility to members. Discount dental plans have low premiums and provide individuals with limited savings when they need dental services, and typically only when they use in-network providers.

Whether you get more value from a Medicare Advantage plan if eligible, or a Marketplace plan that includes dental and vision coverage, or from a separate standalone policy, really depends on the amount of services you believe you will use, and on the rates. In addition to comparing premiums, you’ll want to also compare copays and annual maximum benefits of the plan. Some plans max out benefits after a certain amount and will not pay for further treatment or services until the next year. To get started finding the best plan for you, review the carriers and plans above. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask a question using the online form to the right.
